Catfish

Can you make catfish sashimi? Or can you imagine a 646 pound fried catfish? Must be called catfish because it eats house cats for breakfast.

Surf Log 5 - Sunset Beach

So I haven't gone out in about a week and half (its been a little busy lately) but today I drove down Sunst Blvd. to Sunset Beach. It was pretty crowded, this pic was taken at around 10:30. The waves looked good though, long slow break. I think we should probably check this out, the only problem is there is so many people I'm afraid I'll run over someone.

First Ligers, now this

My brother pointed out that Penelope is a cat. I had a neighbor who had a cat that looked like Sylvester, I wonder if he ever fancied skunks.

Cocaine is a hell of a drug

So today I was driving to work as usual at the crack of dawn, but unlike all the other days we drove by a DEA bust. How exciting. As we were getting on the Myrtle onramp, we pass this house which was surrounded by unmarked black GMC Envoys. All the SUV look like they drove in at high speed and all the occupants ran out after leaving their vehicles parked on the flower bed and the Villagrosa lawn ads. Well around the other side of the house we saw the occupants, a bunch of huge guys in Kevlar helmets and vests with their guns drawn. Must have been 20 guys with DEA written across their backs. Drug bust at the crack of dawn! Actually its probably a weed house. This dealer had a great location, its basically right on the freeway onramp, and its walking distance to three schools. They had a ton of agents though, this guy must have had a whole lot of weed.

Driving

So Scott Lee is waiting to take delivery of this pretty awesome looking car. In the meantime we went to the Rose Bowl parking lot for him to practice driving a manual around.

Surf Log 4 - Totally Drainned

Went in the water Sunday morning and yesterday afternoon (Wednesday). Sunday was low tide, the waves were breaking farther out. At first it was pretty hard to get out there, but it got easier. Minor hand injury, knocked my thumb against board when a wave threw it at me and hyperextended it. No lingering effects today. Today I can barely move, expended a lot of energy yesterday. Ray came with us this time, but he had to leave early to pick up his wedding rings. It was high tide, and the waves were breaking closer, but I think I'm started to get consistent at riding the whitewater after a wave crashes.

Guess what today is

Daniel's Birthday. Or as Planned Parenthood calls it, Birth Control's 40th Birthday.

SPF 70

You didn't think they made SPF 70 did you? Well someone does and it smells like coconuts. Banana Boat Surf 30 has been doing okay, but since we've been out there for like 3 hours at a time I'm starting to look like an Oompa Loompa. At least now I will at the very least be a fragrant Oompa Loompa.

Surf Log

I'm going to start charting my progress with surfing. On Saturday Scott and I went to Santa Monica. Before we got in the water I got a leash from ZJ Boarding House, its a 9 foot. September kept her leash so I had to go get one. Some guy named James sold it to me, I forgot to mention his name at checkout though, which was probably a bad thing since they probaly work on comission over there. The was also a hot blonde chick who was buying rack pads infront of me. Acutally I couldn't tell if she was hot cause she didn't turn around, she could have been like 41 and not hot. Eveyone in Santa Monica is fit, so everyone looks hot from the back. Judging from the look on the guy who opened up a register for her, she must have had something going.
Anyway the conditions were choppy but the waves weren't big so it was doable. It was also a little overcast. I think because of the chop it was a little hard keeping straight because once you got going on a wave, it would be bumpy and a lot of times I ended up coming in sideways. I did catch the first wave and got going pretty good. Got a couple more later that day, I'd have to say that Saturday was the day it clicked for me.
The new board did well. It could a little bit more wax so it would be easier to stary on and grap hold of to snap up. I'll have to see how I can wax a softboard.
I also discovered a nick on my suit, put three layers of neoprene cement on it, hopefully it will hold. Maybe I should get this bottle of cement off my desk or people might think I'm some kind of glue sniffing degenerate.

Surfboard

Check out this new-to-me softboard I bought from this woman named September Death. I'm not kidding, thats her name, here's her imdb page: September. Funny she asked me what I've been riding and I said something in dismissial, "oh some board my friend got from the internet." And what was I doing in Los Feliz exactly? Oh thats right following a lead about a surfboard from craigslist.org. So who besides Scott wants to go surfing this weekend? Friday? Saturday? Sunday? AIM.
