Angeles Crest

Rode up Angeles Crest, this time with a bunch of random people from thumpertalk. Pretty good ride, went up to Newcomb pass and had some pancakes. Here's a pic of a bunch of Suzukis.

karoshi

One of my favorite German words is schadenfreude, which is enjoyment taken from the misfortune of someone else. I like it because the particular type of enjoyment was actually common enough to warrant its own word. Well now I just found my new favorite Japanese word. Karoshi. They kind of go together actually.

Beach after work

it was hot as hell so I watched people at the beach all afternoon.

Angeles crest

rode up to angeles crest to check out some trails. Some good road and some good dirt up there.

Gas brutal

I have a small car and it cost me this much to fill up. Liberating carbon and energy ain't cheap.

Morro Bay

Morro Bay up the California Coast. Great place to go visit. I camped out next to the bay when I took a road trip up PCH. I think I could have spent a week there.

Phoenix Landed

My first month on the job and we had a spectacular landing on Mars. I even had to work. Although I was glad to be to be part of the event and I was shadowing Katherine so I wasn't doing anything critical. It was pretty darn cool. I worked in the Navigation Mission Support Area were the Phoenix navigators were working round the clock for a couple of the events like trajectory corrections and EDL. We watch the lander touch down through our real time doppler feed and everybody cheered when the lander relayed back the successful landing tone. Later on the pictures came in and we went into the main mission support area to check them out Its the room that you can see from NASA TV where everyone is wearing blue shirts. The back row is where all the VIPs sit, including Dr. Elachi, the lab director and some other big wigs from NASA. This is a shot taken by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter of the heat shield, parachute and back shell debris. Pretty awesome.

Workspace

they definitely make sure there are no obstacles to get in the way of you doing your work around here. Not in photo: the non functioning badge reader (for me at least).

Circle X

Sandstone peak from Circle X station.

UC Easter

We got the day off today since its Ceasar Chavez Day (UC Easter Break) and so I drove up to Malibu to check out Mishe Mokwa Trail off of Circle X Ranch. You drive about 9 miles on Yerba Buena Road which branches off PCH at the county line to get there. Basically make a right after you pass Neptune's Net. This is the view North on the beach side of PCH. Lot of surfers out today, and dogs. The hills were all yellow too, I think they're poppy blooms. It rained so much everything is green and yellow.

TP

I subleted my apartment for the month of February while I was in the Philippines. After I moved back into my apartment all my toilet paper was gone. Turns out I didn't need TP that much, its been 3 weeks and I finally bought some. Think of all the trees I saved. And all the newspapers I defiled. Oh checkout Tasmeen's myspace artists page. The girl I subleted my place to. She sings and acts. Free promotion is always nice, haha even if its just to my journal's three remaining subscribers.

White Water Rafting

Rafting in the Davao River. The rain just started falling so the rapids were not as crazy, but still a whole lot of fun. Thanks to my cousin Edmund for taking us, I'd love to do this again.

Samal Island

This is an islet off Samal Island in Davao at the Pearl Farm Resort. You can actually walk all the way to that little islet. There's a water slide on the other side. I think one of the Amazing Races was filmed here.

For Jeff

Here's some durians. By the way they are banned in hotel lobbies in this town I'm in. The sign says no bombs, firearms, or durians.

Happy New Year

My family and I rung in the New Year on the strip. Scott and his classmates were also there. Big thanks to Dave for hanging out with us too. Everybody was out on the road, Las Vegas Blvd. was shutdown from about 6 pm to well into the early hours of the morning. All the hotels also started restricting entry to hotel guests only. Haha I'm already looking forward to 2009. This photo is about 250 ms of the 10 minute fireworks show shot thorugh my 50mm lens.

Spamalot

Saw Spamalot at the Wynn with my family and Kathryn. Highly recommend whether you've seen Monty Python's Holy Grail or not. It basically a postmodern musical comedy of Holy Grail, which is kinda odd since Holy Grail was pretty much a postmodern satire.
